Alan van Capelle is Executive Director of the High Line, a world-renowned organization that is both a non-profit and a public park on the West Side of Manhattan, devoted to reimagining the role public spaces have in creating connected, healthy neighborhoods and cities.
He previously served as President and CEO of Educational Alliance, a network of economically integrated community centers in Lower Manhattan. He has been a community organizer, a labor movement contract negotiator, New York City Deputy Comptroller, and a chief architect of New York’s historic marriage equality bill. He has worked to advance the goals of people on the margins, and thereby strengthen our society and improve life for all.
Van Capelle earned his Masters of Public Administration from the NYU Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the City University of New York.
