NEW YORK, May 3, 2022 — The NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research has released the following statement about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Roe. v Wade ruling which gave women the Constitutional right to an abortion:
The Supreme Court has decided to take away a right that women in America have had for 49 years: to determine what happens with their own bodies. This is a devastating step backward for our society that will have a massive impact on the lives of women and families. Now, those in low-income communities and women of color will bear the brunt of Roe v. Wade being overturned. This isn’t over. We must advocate for policies that protect the rights and lives of women nationwide, and vote accordingly.
