McSilver is proud to be among the organizations to partner with the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services to create an OMH-funded Psychiatric Rehabilitation Training Academy in NY.
NEW YORK—On September 20, 2022, the NYS Office of Mental Health announced a collaboration with the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS) to create a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Training Academy. The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) has awarded NYAPRS $6.5 million over three years for the Academy.
NYU McSilver Institute is among the state advocacy and training organizations that will develop and provide evidence-based psychiatric rehabilitation training for direct practitioners across New York State. Other partners include Boston University Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation; Coalition for Behavioral Health; Center for Practice Innovation; Coordinated Care Services Inc.; Partnership to End Addiction, Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of New York State (ASAP); Friends of Recovery New York and the Academy of Peer Services.
According to an OMH press release:
Psychiatric rehabilitation helps adults living with major mental health conditions obtain the skills, supports and resources needed to successfully advance their health and recovery and to meet their essential personal social, employment, housing and related life goals.
OMH Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan said, “The new Academy is another investment OMH is making in our mental health workforce and will help to expand the pool of Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioners in New York State. These men and women provide hope and positive changes to people living with serious mental illness and help to empower them as they make their way towards self-determination and recovery.”
