Olivia Lapeyrolerie Appointed As NYU McSilver Chief Communications Officer

Appointment of renowned strategist part of Institute’s new senior leadership team

NEW YORK, October 18, 2022 — The NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research today announced the appointment of Olivia Lapeyrolerie as Chief Communications Officer, effective immediately. In this role, Ms. Lapeyrolerie will be a member of the Institute’s new senior leadership team working to advance the organization’s mission to disrupt poverty.

Ms. Lapeyrolerie is a seasoned communications strategist, known for her ability to synthesize complex policy issues into accessible messaging as well as her savvy media relations skills. Most recently, she served as a Vice President at SKDK, one of the country’s preeminent, progressive communications firms, where she advised many of the firms’ major nonprofit and advocacy clients. Prior to joining SKDK, Ms. Lapeyrolerie worked as the First Deputy Press Secretary for the NYC Mayor’s Office, where she served as an on-the-record spokesperson for Mayor de Blasio and co-led the administration’s media relations. In this role, Ms. Lapeyrolerie oversaw and developed communications strategies for the NYPD, Department of Education, Housing Authority, Commission on Human Rights and the cities’ public health agencies. Ms. Lapeyrolerie also briefly advised on the Mayor’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Prior to her stint in city government, Ms. Lapeyrolerie served as the Columbus Press Secretary for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Presidential Campaign. Ms. Lapeyrolerie began her career in President Obama’s Administration as the Press Assistant at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Ms. Lapeyrolerie received her Masters in Modern History from the University of St Andrews, where she published a dissertation on historiography of the Civil Rights Movement by examining race riots in Cleveland in the 1960s.
