On Monday, June 4, 2018, the McSilver Institute honored seven incredible individuals who are leading powerful and transformative movements aimed at creating a more just and equitable world, especially for those who are impacted by poverty. For the sixth annual McSilver Awards, we celebrated honorees who are truly vanguards for social justice:

Marley Dias, Activist, Author and Founder, #1000BlackGirlBooks

Erica Ford, Anti-Violence Activist, CEO and Founder of LIFE Camp Inc.

Maria Hinojosa, Founder, Futuro Media Group and Emmy Award-Winning Journalist, Anchor and Editor

Michael Hurwitz, Food Justice Advocate and Director, Greenmarket, GrowNYC

Anna Deavere Smith, Tony and Pulitzer Prize Nominated Playwright, Actress and Professor, NYU Tisch School of the Arts

and Reverend Michael A. Walrond, Jr., Civil Rights Leader and Senior Pastor, First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC)
